A potential disaster was averted when a Daallo Airlines passenger plane en route to Djibouti from Somalia, with a huge hole in its fuselage managed to safely make an emergency landing in Mogadishu, after an explosion.
According to reports, the hole in the plane’s side came as a result of an explosion but it remains unclear what caused the explosion. However, there are reports that the explosion could have been a bomb blast as the cause of explosion is under investigation.
The explosion occurred shortly after take-off. Mohammed Ibrahim Yassin, the chief executive of Somalia’s Daallo Airlines, confirmed the accident to Forbes saying: “Fifteen minutes the aircraft was in the air. There was a bang, a sort of an explosion, and then it returned safely,”
“There are two minor injuries. We don’t know what caused it … Anything is possible…”
The aircraft was carrying 74 passengers and 7 crew members.
