Enumerating the excesses of Guinea’s justice system, the UN office explained that at the Conakry central prison for example, only 250 prisoners have been convicted out of 1,140 detainees.

The report explained that “police and gendarmerie cells are cramped, dark, overheated and unsanitary; they lack ventilation and decent latrines…prisoners sleep on the floor.”

The office blamed this on the lack of regular court sittings and urged the authorities to rectify this immediately.
