A Liberian minister, Lewis Brown told that BBC that they were traced, but turned in at the treatment centre.

The incident that led to the patients leaving the treatment centre highlights one of the major problems facing Liberia: the fact that many people still question the validity of the Ebola outbreak.

According to new UN figures 1,229 people have now died of Ebola this year. The outbreak has also affected Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria, where it appears to be under control.
