The Malian case stems from a two-year-old girl who was brought from Guinea to Mali by relatives after her mother died of the disease.

The news case makes Mali the sixth West African state where Ebola has been identified in the current outbreak and heightens fear that effort to contain the virus are not working and that stricter border control should be one of the key measures.

These fears are however countered by the examples of Nigeria and Senegal, two nations that effectively battled the virus that has killed of 4500 people so far.
