The abductions were said to have taken place in two villages, with 40 women forcefully taken from their homes in Waga Mangoro and 20 other from Grata village, Nigeria.

According to a Punch newspaper report, the insurgents, who have been in control of the area for about two months, went from house to house over the weekend picking up young women.

Abduction of women by Boko Haram is not uncommon in the troubled north-east. About 219 girls taken from a secondary school in neighbouring Borno state are still in captivity, over 6 months after their capture.
