The city of Durban hosted the third Zakifo Festival. The festival, which is organized by Jerome Galabert, had in attendance various artists like Ray Phiri, Jojo Abbot, and Damian Marley among others. The two day festival was captured in pictures by Tseliso Monaheng.
The closure of music venues which promote live music usually creates a gap in an industry that needs touring circuits and venues that can support live shows among other things for sustainability. An 11 year-old Zakes Mda made his way into Lesotho by crossing the country’s southern border with South Africa. He navigated the winding Maloti mountain terrain to join his father, A.P. Mda, a lawyer and Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) stalwart who had exiled himself to the country earlier.
