In a gruesome domestic violence incident that has left many dumbfounded, a woman in Amanzimtoti in KwaZul-Natal was killed on Sunday when her husband threw two hand grenades at her during an argument.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane one of the two grenades exploded and wounded the 33-year-old who later died in hospital.
Police’s explosive unit discovered shrapnel from the explosion and the unexploded grenade in the house. The type and source of the explosives could not be established.
The 30 year old suspect is still on the run.
The incident comes on the heels of calls by gender activists for women to protect themselves against domestic violence by familiarising themselves with the Firearms Control Act and the Domestic Violence Act following numerous gun related domestic violence cases.
