There seems to be a new craze for “hoverboards” in Nigeria and diners at a restaurant in Ibadan will soon experience being served by waiters and waitresses gliding on customised skateboards which look like “hoverboards”.

Latitude Cafe is setting the pace as the first restaurant in Nigeria to initiate this idea and the concept has been met with mixed feelings on social media with some rubbishing the idea as far-fetched.

Although the name “hoverboard” is rather misleading, that has not slowed the popularity of the device in Nigeria and abroad. The device which will be used by Latitude Cafe is a Segway board which doesn’t actually hover but rather rolls and resembles a skateboard. Actual levitating “hoverboards” are yet to hit the market.

“Hoverboards” have recently made headlines since American rapper Wiz Khalifa was arrested riding one.

Not to be outdone, Nigerian artiste, May D also got himself the new device and was also recently arrested riding on a so-called hoverboard at Ikeja Mall, in Ibadan and he took to social media to complain about the arrest.
