US comedian, Anthony Anderson will be hosting this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards to be held on Saturday 18 July at the Durban International Convention Centre, Durban in KwaZulu-Natal.

Anderson is an actor, producer and funnyman who recently co-hosted the 2015 BET Awards in Los Angeles, USA. He is known for his leading roles on various sitcoms, NBC’s Emmy Award-winning drama Law & Order and having made appearances in more than 20 movies.

Despite the criticism and tongue lashes that the previous American host of the 2014 awards, Marlon Wayans, got from the African audience for his misguided perceptions about Africa, MTV seems to be loving the idea of having the African-American as hosts on the African show, not withstanding the fact that Africa has got a lot of talented international and regional entertainers.

The awards ceremony will simultaneously air via a live telecast on MTV Base (DStv channel 322), MTV (DStv channel 130) and BET (DStv channel 129) for the first time ever and globally on MTV channels around the world on 27 August 2015.
