A $250 million African themed water park, Kalahari Round Rock, is set to be built in Texas, USA making it the fourth waterpark of that nature.
Kalahari, who describe themselves on their website as full service vacation destinations including meeting & convention facilities that combine America’s largest indoor waterparks with the magic of Africa are well known for their massive, African-themed resorts.
The other three are Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; Sandusky, Ohio; and Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania.
Kalihari Round Rock will be opening in 2020. However Round Rock Texas has said Kalahari intends to open the Round Rock resort no later than December 2021.
The family-owned business is said to offer waterpark resort and conference experience beyond expectations.
“The authentically African-themed Kalahari Resorts feature well-appointed guest rooms, full-service amenities, fully equipped fitness centres, on-site restaurants, unique retail shops and state-of-the-art conference centres,” reports Round Rock Texas.

This could possibly be home away from home for many Africans based in the diaspora who find it difficult to travel back to the continent.
Kalahari already has some of the country’s largest indoor water parks which often have water slides and lazy rivers. This park will also have convention centres, dining, spas and retail shops as well as park attractions including slides, pools, rivers and fountains.
The resort is scheduled to have about 1,000 guest rooms and suites, and 150,000 to 200,000 square feet of meeting space. The water park itself is about 200,000 square feet.
Kalahari has surely created a niche for themselves on the tourist market and of course here’s to hoping that Africans are able to contribute to what an Africa themed resort area should be like.
