A sequel to Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk To Freedom is set to be published next year. The former South African president had already begun drafting it and his widow, Graça Machel now wants to fulfil his intention by having it published.
Yet to be titled, the sequel will bring together Mandela’s manuscript and other extensive archive material to offer the former president’s perspectives on South Africa’s first democratically elected government.
Together with The Nelson Mandela Foundation, Pan Macmillan will work on the book.
“Working with the Foundation on this remarkable project will be an even greater privilege. The sequel to Long Walk to Freedom will not only tell Mr Mandela’s story from his release to his retirement from government, but will also be a rallying cry that will remind readers everywhere what he stood for – and how it is still possible for his vision and his political philosophy positively to change not only South Africa, but the world,” said Editorial Director Georgina Morley.
