Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has made an appearance since leaving the country for medical treatment in London. A picture of the ailing Buhari was released on Twitter yesterday by the Presidency of Nigeria. The photo was captioned, “President @MBuhari this afternoon received a delegation of APC Governors and leaders in Abuja House, London”.

The delegation hosted to lunch by the President included, “Party Chairman John Oyegun; Govs of Imo, Kaduna, Kogi, Nasarawa, & Min @ChibuikeAmaechi,” the Presidency of Nigeria noted.

The picture shows President Buhari sitting at a table smiling, and the 74-year-old appears to be in good spirits although details of his health status have not been released.

Giving an update the Presidency of Nigeria said on Twitter, “The President sends his best wishes to all Nigerians. He will be back to Nigeria as soon as his doctors give the go-ahead”.

The photo could allay fears of many Nigerian on the state of Buhari’s health following rumours that he was either  incapacitated or dead.

Early this year Buhari’s absence sparked a hashtag on Twitter #WhereIsBuhari and hundreds of Nigerians took to social media demanding proof that the president was fit to govern after spending close to two months in hospital overseas.

Although the latest picture could dispel many of the rumours doing the rounds in Nigeria, Buhari’s continued absence and lack of clarity on the nature of his illness and what the prognosis for his long-term health could be, can only spur further damaging speculations.
