Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, popularly known as Patoranking has become the first African to perform at the Reggae Sumfest, the largest concert festival in Jamaica. Patoranking who is a reggae-dancehall artiste came into limelight after his song ‘Girlie O’ hit the airwaves in early 2014.

Patoranking who is currently a judge in the The Voice Nigeria performed at the Reggae Sumfest which took place between the 16th and 22nd of July. The festival is deemed as the biggest weeklong festival in Jamaican history.

Reggae Sumfest was started in 1993 by Robert Russell and Johnny Gourzong and adapted through decades, incorporating performances during the coming years of some of the biggest stars in music, including Rihanna, Kanye West, Usher, Alicia Keys, Nicky Minaj, 50 Cent, Lionel Ritchie, and numerous other international stars. Jamaican and International stars of Reggae and Dancehall artists such as Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, Stephen Marley, Ziggy Marley, Dennis Brown, Toots & The Maytals, Beres Hammond, Burning Spear, Shaggy, Shabba Ranks, Elephant man, Beenie Man, and virtually every artist of merit in the world of Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall music.

Patoranking’s 2015 hit ‘My woman, my everything’ was a big jam in Jamaica and received a lot of airplay. This played a big role in him getting invited for the festival. The continent has produced a number of top reggae artists including Majek Fashek, Lucky Dube, among others. This year’s Reggae Sumfest had the likes of Feluke, Fantan Mojah and Sean Paul.
