The Democratic Republic of Congo national soccer team, which recently made history by winning the African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament for the second time has been rewarded for its achievement.
According to the BBC, each member of the team which won the tournament will receive a luxury Toyota Land Cruiser Prado car worth about $60,000.
President Joseph Kabila symbolically handed over keys to the top of the range cars to DR Congo captain Joel Kimwaki and coach Florent Ibenge at a ceremony in Kinshasa, the Standard Media reported.
DR Congo defeated Mali in the final which was played in Kigali, Rwanda. A brace by Mechak Elia and another goal from Jonathan Bolingi won it for locally the based Leopards.
On the road to the finals, DR Congo eliminated Rwanda in the quarter-finals 2-1 in extra time before defeating Guinea 5-4 on penalties in the semi-finals.
DR Congo first won the maiden tournament in 2009, defeating Ghana 2-1 in the finals, which took place in Ivory Coast.
