Just when it seemed like the countries most affected by Ebola were finally getting some respite, John Koroma, the bodyguard of no less a figure that the vice president of Sierra Leone died from the dreaded virus last week. As a result, Vice-President Samuel Sam-Sumana has put himself into voluntary quarantine as a precaution.
Sam-Sumana said that even though he was “very well”, he has decided to stay out of contact with others for 21 days in order to lead by example. The staff of the vice-president have also been placed under observation.
Since the Ebola virus entered into Sierra Leone, no senior government official has died from the virus or been quarantined.
