Central African Republic: Will Africa act on threat of genocide?

Is Africa and the world going to witness another genocide take place? The United Nations (U.N) humanitarian chief, Stephen O’Brien has said there are fears that the conflict in the Central African Republic (C.A.R) could soon deteriorate to a genocide. Fighting in the C.A.R. has gone on for four years between the government, rebels and militias. The fighting also involve Christian and Muslim militia groups.


ICC jails former Congo vice president Bemba for 18 years

They say your past always catches up with you and in the case of former Congolese Vice President Jean-Pierre Bemba, it has done so in spectacular fashion. The man who got the second highest number of votes in Congo’s 2006 presidential election was today sentenced to 18 years in prison by the ICC. But Bemba, who still harbours presidential ambitions, might be back home sooner than you think.


The UN receives 44 new sex abuse allegations in 2016 in CAR, DRC and Haiti

The United Nations has revealed that it has received 44 new allegations of sexual abuse by peacekeepers and staff in UN missions in Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Haiti. Following recommendations from rights groups, the UN says it is working on measures to offer protection and assistance to victims. The measures include vetting of all forces and supporting a Trust Fund, created to help victims of sexual abuse.
