Gabon 2017: All set for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament

Africa’s biggest soccer showcase, the Africa Cup of Nations is certainly upon us, kicking off tomorrow (Saturday), the 14th of January. Hosts Gabon will get the ball rolling in the opening match in Libreville tomorrow in a game against debutants The Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau, in a Group A clash. We wish all the 16 teams participating in the tournament the very best. Let the 2017 games begin.

Dream meeting: Afghan boy who wore plastic Argentina number 10 shirt meets Messi in Qatar

Murtaza Ahmadi, 5 year-old Afghan football fanatic who was photographed wearing a plastic Argentina number 10 shirt, early this year met has met his hero, Barcelona maestro Leo Messi in Doha. The young boy was invited to the game by the Qatari hosts in a game between Saudi side Al-Ahli and Barça, and Murtaza had the one in a life time opportunity to meet Messi in person at a ‘Meet&Greet’ event at the team’s hotel.


Afcon draw reveals intriguing groups

The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations picture was finally revealed with a draw held in Libreville which placed the 16 teams into four intriguing groups. Africa mourns former Nigeria captain and coach Stephen the “Big Boss” Keshi

Nigeria has lost one of its soccer greats, former captain and coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, popularly known as the “Big Boss”. Keshi was born in Nigeria in 1962 and passed away in the early hours of today, reportedly from a cardiac arrest. He was 54 years old. Keshi won the AFCON trophy both as a player and coach with Nigeria. The Big Boss indeed leaves an indelible mark and a great legacy.
