Team Nigeria’s newest medalist is Blessing Okagbere,a gold medalist for the 100m race. Okagbare has set a new Commonwealth record of 10.85 seconds as against Debbie Ferguson’s 10.91 which has held sway for 12 years.

Okagbare had shown much promise when she was awarded the 2013 Athlete of the year by the Nigeria Olympic Committee for her performances last year.

Nigeria has climbed to the 9th position of the medals table with the help of Nkechi Opara,won the bronze medal for the 48Kg weightlighlifting category, Chika Amahala, gold, 53Kg,Oluwatoyin Adesanmi and Obioma Okoli, who won Gold and Silver at the Women’s 63Kg Weighlifting.

Nigeria’s Oja Onolapo also whopped Commonwealth favourites, India, to clinch bronze at the Bronze medal playoff.
