In a dramatic video which posted on Twitter, U.S. Senator Jeff Flake, a Republican from Arizona and his companions had lucky escape when a herd of elephants charged at their convoy in the Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique.

The 53-year-old politician shared the video on his Twitter account.

In the 10-second video, as the elephants charge at the truck from an uncomfortably close distance, a woman nervously exclaims, “Go, go, go!” and another voice respond, “It’s a real charge, guys”.

After the incident, Flake wrote on Twitter: “these elephants have no respect for a fellow Republican. No respect I tell ya,  #Gorongosa #EndWildlifeTrafficking” a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Republican party’s elephant symbol.

Flake and his delegation of congressmen were reportedly on a mission to several African countries last week to learn more about the devastating effects of wildlife poaching.

Gorongosa National Park is situated in the heart of central Mozambique and boasts of a wide variety of animals and plants.
