Our Man Crush Monday: Nasir Yammama is a multi-talented 27 year-old Nigerian creative technologist, entrepreneur, and nomad. He is intrigued by technology, design, enterprise, strategy, writing, art, philosophy, renewable energies, and agriculture. Well a few words from us ‘Nasir Yammama you are too much’.
In 2014, he founded Verdant AgriTech, a social enterprise to support rural farmers with mobile technologies for sustainable farming. The enterprise also deals with improved food production. Verdant aims to provide agricultural data science, market information, and managerial support. It also provides access to financial services to rural farmers for improved food productions using mobile phones. All services are location based and tailored to the farmer’s specific crop choice and location.
According to its website, the organisation’s objective is to avail and democratize agricultural information so as to enable the cutting down of the cost of doing business in agriculture to a great extent. They help farmers to produce more food with less input and better managerial support.

Nasir Yammama who was selected among the Forbes 30 under 30 says, “The Company was founded on the premise that smallholders should be able to produce more, sell more, make more profit and thereby attain an improved standard of living by using simple technologies,” he says.
He began with 50 farmers in Katsina, his home state, and taught them to use their basic phones to gather market information, weather and management skills, and financial services. Featured by Afrobougee, the young man says he is fuelled by the ability to help people, who would otherwise struggle, find themselves in better and more stable positions by introducing them to more productive methods.
He was raised as a farmer’s child and he ventured out from the fields into the Institute and Creative Technology at Middlesex University, London. This is where he began his technology interest which would later develop into something very distinct and close to home.
Achievements
According to Forbes Africa, he studied information technology and business information systems at Middlesex University, London. Nasir has a master’s in creative technology. The entrepreneur was selected among 50 Global Entrepreneurs for the MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. He received the Queen’s Young Leaders Award in England. He won numerous awards, including the British Council and Virgin Atlantic’s Enterprise Challenge in 2015 where he was mentored by Sir Richard Branson and received a start-up grant for Verdant.
