Several thousand NPP supporters marched in Accra to protest widespread power cuts in the country on Wednesday. They criticised President John Dramani Mahama of failure to boost electricity output, which has negatively impacted business dealings.
According to the AFP, “Experts say power supply has been hampered by under-performing dams, with output partly hurt by lower than normal rainfall last year.”
One Accra based barber (Isaac Kwaku Asante) said to the AFP: “We don’t have light (electricity) to do our work.”
The opposition party also criticised the president and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, for failing to stabilise the economy. NPP Member of Parliament (Isaac Osei) said: “If [the NDC] can’t fix the [electricity] problem, then they must give way to another government which will take over and run the affairs of this country.”
