Meet Camilla Kruger: Zimbabwe’s first Olympics equestrian rider

As the 2016 Rio Olympic Games draw closer, Zimbabwean rider, Camilla Kruger is on the verge of making history as the first Zimbabwean athlete to compete in any equestrian discipline at the Olympics. Kruger made history, when she qualified for the competition and says she’s proud to wear the country’s flag at #rio2016. The country is certainly behind Camialla and her horse, Sam The Man.

As the 2016 Rio Olympic Games draw closer, Zimbabwean rider, Camilla Kruger is on the verge of making history as the first Zimbabwean athlete to compete in any equestrian discipline at the Olympics. Kruger made history, when she qualified for the competition and says she’s proud to wear the country’s flag at ‪#rio2016.

To book her spot at the summer games, Kruger and her horse Sam The Man (also known as Biarritz), competed at the Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) Olympic qualification, coming out on top, confirming her debut Olympic qualification.

Kruger will participate in the eventing competition, and she carries the hopes of a nation.

Based in the United Kingdom, the 29 year-old is relishing the  opportunity to compete at the  Olympics, writing on Facebook, “This dream is getting really close – we travel to Rio at the end of this month. Insanely exciting! absolutely couldn’t do it without the wonderful team, trainers, sponsors, family and friends supporting Sam and I on our adventure. ‪#‎firstzimequestrianolympian”.

Kruger’s preparations have been going well and she continues to receive support and messages of encouragement.

The hype over the country’s history making rider is surely growing by the day and judging by the social media buzz, Zimbabweans are certainly behind Camilla and Sam The Man.
