Victoria Michaels named Mercedes Benz African Fashion Festival ambassador

Global Ovations has named Ghanaian model, Victoria Michaels, as the brand ambassador for the 2016 Mercedes Benz African Fashion Festival.

Ahead of the 2016 edition of the Mercedes Benz African Fashion Festival (MBAFF), Global Ovations has named Ghanaian model, Victoria Michaels, as its brand ambassador.

Since its inception in 2014, MBAFF has positioned itself as a major platform for the promotion of African fashion, working with hundreds of designers, models, make-up artists, and other industry professionals across the continent.

“With this in mind we began our search for an icon, someone who would best represent what MBAFF stands for, a regal personality who isn’t just an image but a symbol that will inspire a generation,” a statement by Global Ovations, organisers of the festival, said. “It is with these qualities that we announce our MBAFF 2016 Brand Ambassador, Victoria Michaels.” Michaels, the statement continued, possesses “true beauty and intelligence which defines originality and confidence.”

This year’s festival, which will be held between 27th and 29th May, in Accra, Ghana, is tagged, the ‘Royal Edition’. In explaining the choice of theme, the statement said: “This year, we want to emphasize the regality in the African aesthetic with a reminder that Africa was built on a foundation of royalty.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Global Ovations, Gideon Raji, noted that its brand ambassador, Michaels, is a personification of this year’s theme, as she is elegant and graceful, with a regal carriage.

Michaels, who expressed delight at being chosen for the role, promised to use her position to promote African fashion globally.

Michaels is an accomplished Ghanaian model who left a thriving banking career spanning five years to pursue her passion. She has worked as both a runway and an editorial model, and has won many awards for her effort, travelling often across the world in the process. Her passion for women and children led to the establishment of the Victoria Michaels Foundation, a non-profit organisation aimed at empowering less privileged women and children in her country.

The 2016 MBAFF will showcase avant-garde collections with a touch of royalty. On the side, there will be art exhibitions, pop-up shops, workshops, fashion seminars, a sports show, auto shows and networking cocktails.
