Celebrating Afro-Brazilian Women’s Undeniable Beauty

Even though Brazil wants to celebrate an image of unity and inclusiveness, we find that the erasure in the stands at the World Cup is a telling reminder that blackness is rendered invisible in that country. What some Brazilians of African descent are saying is that there has always been a denial in Brazil about the role of black people in the country. Even Seleção star Neymar has come in for some criticism over how he has changed his image.

The women we’re highlighting are actresses, singers, models, television presenters and even a sports star. Obviously beauty is not the only thing we can talk about when it comes to Afro-Brazilians, but when people talk about Brazilian beauty and especially that of models, they automatically think of those models who have more of a European look. The variety and range of skin tones in Brazil is therefore not widely celebrated, even though Brazilians have this famous type of beauty.
