Chinese integration? Chinese businessman named a chief in Nigeria

Mike Zhang, a Chinese businessman, and leader in the community in northern Nigeria has been installed as chief in a bid to improve relations between locals and the growing Chinese community.

In a bid to improve relations between locals and the growing Chinese community in Kano State, Mike Zhang, a Chinese businessman, and leader in the community in northern Nigeria has been installed as chief.

The Emir of Kano, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II approved the appointment and instalment of Zhang as a chief and leader in the northern Nigerian state.

According to Premium Times, a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Kano Emirate, Sa’adatu Baba-Ahmad, said the appointment follows an increase in the number of Chinese businessmen who engage in different forms of businesses in Kano without organised leadership.

The lack of organised leadership makes it difficult to solve conflicts that emanate from business transactions between Chinese and Kano traders, the statement reportedly said.

The statement added that such appointments were made to establish a peaceful coexistence between foreign nationals, and members of the community.
