Nigerian presidency release photo of Buhari in London

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has made an appearance since leaving the country for medical treatment in London, appearing in a picture released on Twitter by the Presidency of Nigeria. Although the latest picture could dispel the rumours doing the rounds in Nigeria, lack of clarity on the nature of Buhari’s illness and what the prognosis for his long-term health could be, can spur more damaging speculations.


Nigeria: Buhari and the economy called medical tourism

African leaders are sustaining Europe’s medical tourism. With millions of dollars spent on medical check-ups, while many of the ordinary populace use the underfunded health institutions, African leaders have not focused on the health sector of their countries. President Muhammadu Buhari has been out of the country for 72 days. As Nigeria’s economy tries to stand on its feet, Buhari remains in London, what many Nigerians have called his “branch office”.


Ugandan youths resist plot to scrap presidential age limit

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been in power since 1986. The 73 year-old Ugandan president doesn’t see the need to leave the seat of power, and seeks to extend it by any means possible, including a constitutional amendment. The age limit for contesting for president in Uganda is 75, but it seems Museveni wants to be Uganda’s life president. There have been protests from youths in Uganda but Parliamentarians are yet to take a position on this plan.
