The Lompoul desert is a small desert with an area of about 18 km2 located 145 km south of Saint-Louis, Senegal. It has orange sand dunes forming a landscape similar to those of the Sahara and Mauritania making it a popular tourist attraction of Senegal. Incredible activities Include camel trekking, sand dune buggies, magnificent vistas and more.
The desert also hosts the “Festival du Sahel” springs from the dunes of the Lompoul once a year to showcase the region’s culture and music. Festival-goers explore the sands on camelback and dance into the night to the sounds of traditional instruments. The festival has been going on since 2009.
