President Uhuru Kenyatta was selected as African President of the Year 2014/2015 for his outstanding leadership in consensus-building locally and abroad, his sound policy-making and his ability to supervise solutions to Kenya’s most urgent issues.
Thousands of All-Africa Students Students Union (AASU) members from across the continent acknowledged Kenyatta’s leadership efficiency and a handful presented him with the award at Senate House, Nairobi.
Led by their AASU, East African representative, Mr Lone Felix of Kenyatta University, the students stressed the need for better engagement between themselves and government as a deterrent to violent protests. The president concurred.

“You should engage the ministry (of Education) in a more constructive manner without going to the streets and throwing stones”, the President told the student leaders who also requested the Head of State for more funding from the Higher Education Loans Board.
The president encouraged the student to keep their “dreams alive” as the country is blessed with abundant resources and should therefore become a prosperous nation.
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame is a previous winner of the award.
