Kamanya left a will and a suicide note that includes his preferred funeral arrangements. The note is reported to also state the reasons for his suicide – reasons which have yet to be disclosed by police.
Some family members indicate he might have had huge debts incurred during the election believing he would pay back after winning.
Tuesday’s national election preliminary results showed that Kamanya, member of President Banda’s People’s Party (PP), was likely to lose his seat in parliament and this has fuelled speculation that this is the reason for his suicide.
