Lawyer Linda Kasonde has been elected the Law Association of Zambia’s (LAZ) first female president and Zambians are loving it. Following Kasonde’s election, social media has been awash with congratulatory messages on the historic appointment.
With the appointment, Kasonde becomes the law association’s 33rd president, and the first female to hold the prestigious position.
In the election, Kasonde who previously served as LAZ vice-president, deputising George Chisanga beat two other contestants, Sidney Chisenga and Kafula Mwiche.
In her new position, Kasonde will be deputised by Eddie Mwitwa who defeated Dr Leonard Nkole Kalinde and Enias Chulu.

Zambian President Edgar Lungu posted congratulatory messages on social media on Kasonde’s historic appointment.
“Hearty Congratulations to Ms Linda Kasonde
Our warm and hearty congratulations go to Ms Linda Kasonde who has just been elected as the new Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) President,” Lungu said.
Hakainde Hichilema, President of the opposition party UNDP posted: “Congratulations to Madam Linda Kasonde on her election as the first female President of the Law Association…”
The historic development is proof that women in Zambia and Africa are pushing boundaries and scaling barriers, which previously seemed insurmountable.
