Africans rising
PHOTOS: Wave of protests sweeps through SA universities
A series of major students protests are rippling through some of South Africa’s eminent universities, forcing the country’s tertiary education structures into a time of serious introspection

Black students at some of South Africa’s top universities have drawn the line; enough is enough. They’ve taken a stand against the blatant extortion and “exclusionary tactics” employed by these institutions by way of tuition fee increases to keep tertiary education as a privilege for a small portion of the country’s population.
Protests rippled through the University of Cape Town (UCT), University of Stellenbosch, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Rhodes University, University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) and the University of Fort Hare (UFH) under the calls to arms, #feesmustfall, #endoutsourcing, #uctfeesmustfall, #stelliesfeesmustfall, #cputfeesmustfall, #rhodesfeesmustfall, #witsfeesmustfall and #ufhfeesmustfall. Many protests have been receiving increasing support from community members and university academic staff
Over the next few days, we will be monitoring the events around these protests and giving you regular updates. Below are some powerful images we were able to grab from social media:
