Raila Odinga has named Martha Karua as his running mate in the 9 August election, making her the first woman to run on a major political party’s presidential ticket.
Karua has consistently fought for the protection of women’s rights and improvements to the democratic process.
If the pair win the election, Karua would become Kenya’s first female deputy president.
The impending election will mark the first time in Kenya’s history that no prominent Kikuyu candidates will be running for the top office.
