President Uhuru Kenyatta ICC evidence released

A document containing evidence that was to be used against President Uhuru Kenyatta at an International Criminal Court (ICC) case has been released.

The Pre-Trial brief connects the Kenyan president to the outlawed Mungiki sect. The brief alleges that President Kenyatta was behind an alliance between the Party of National Unity (PNU) and the sect before the 2007 general elctions. Other accusations include the president’s involvement in the organising funding of the banned group during the post-election violence.

ICC Chief Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, withdrew charges against the president on December 5. This followed a rejection by ICC judges which had seen Bensouda request for a further adjournment to the case. She was however allowed to release her evidence before January 19.
