The Funky Professor

Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah caught up with Kobby Graham, a DJ, academic and writer popularly known as the Funky Professor.

Kobby Graham is not your typical academic. Popularly known as the ‘Funky Professor’, he combines lecturing at Ghana’s prestigious Ashesi University with DJ’ing in places like Tea Baa, the new favourite spot for Accra’s boho, hipster crowd.

Infusing his students with a passion for critical thought, feminist theory and African philosophy is part of what gets Kobby excited about stimulating the minds of Africa’s future leaders. After a brief hiatus, (and to the relief of all those like me who love his writing) the Funky Professor is back to sharing his thoughts and musings on culture, African philosophy, music and education via his blog.

A firm believer in creative collaborations, Kobby and his posse – which includes Eli Tetteh (also a lecturer at Ashesi University) and talented photographer Seton Nicholas – are the brains behind nKENTEn which they describe as “an experiment in creative risk, ownership and collaboration.”

Hope you enjoy this video profile produced by myself and Francis Brown of Animax FYB Studios.
