The 55 year-old pop icon has been approached to direct the big-screen adaptation of Rebecca Walker’s debut novel ‘Ade: A Love Story.’ The ‘Like A Virgin’ singer, who made her directing debut with 2008’s ‘Filth and Wisdom’, will be working with the ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ producer, Bruce Cohen, Deadline reports.
The story is based on the author Walker’s own experiences, it follows the journey of a college student, Farida, travelling with a female counterpart through Africa. Farida falls in love with a young Swahili man who lives on an island off the coast of Kenya, but as they plan to marry, political and cultural forces prevent their love from becoming everlasting, and they find themselves caught in the middle of a civil war.
Although the premise is mainly of a love tale, there are many key themes that Madonna can relate with, as she uses her music and stage work to promote the same aspects, such as sex, religion, race and equality.
