Zimbabwean activist, Pastor Evan Mawarire, who was arrested yesterday and ‘charged with inciting violence’ is making his first court appearance at Rotten Row Magistrates Court in Harare today.
Mawarire called for a two-day stay-away starting today and yesterday government authorities vowed to crush the protest. Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo yesterday warned activists that authorities would clamp down on the planned protests.
There has been a heavy police presence at the court, where a crowd gathered to follow proceedings. Mawarire arrived at the court just before mid-day, and was whisked in a tinted white car and the crowd outside hardly got a glimpse of him.
Here are photos from earlier today.

Court session continues.
