Tanzania’s JKHI in Muhimbili National Hospital has recorded its first bypass heart operation, a major feat, which is being celebrated on social media.
The news, currently trending on Twitter was shared by the country’s former President Jakaya Kikwete, and social media users have been posting congratulatory messages, giving praise towards the medical team and the country’s leadership.

The news comes after Nigeria’s Lagos State University Teaching Hospital’s recent announcement that it successfully completed its first ever kidney transplant. The institution also recently carried out the first successful Bone Bridge Surgery in West Africa, and performed Cochlear Implant surgeries on three deaf patients without the support of foreign doctors.
