The president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has told the United Nations to keep off the country’s politics. This is according to a statement from the president yesterday.

The remarks come following worries from the UN envoy to Somalia, Nicholas Kay, that legislators are being bribed to vote against the prime minister in a possible motion of no-confidence.

President Mohamud said that he appreciates the concern but the world must respect Somalia’s “sovereign right…to determine its own future.”

Relations between the president and the Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed have been strained raising worry of the country falling back into political turmoil.
