Zambian President Michael Sata has died. The 77 year old leader passed away in London while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. This is according to private local media.
Reports from the media outlets indicate that President Sata died on Tuesday evening at London’s King Edward VII hospital. According to Reuters news agency, a government source has also confirmed the death.
“It is true. We lost the President. The acting president will make a statement soon,”said the source.
Sata had flown out earlier in the month for a medical check-up.
There has been worry over the leader’s health since June when he disappeared from the public eye.
