Ethiopian Airlines to resume multiple daily service flights to Eritrea

Eritrea’s President Isaias Afwerki and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed embraced a peace deal that would bring stability to the Horn of Africa. The peace deal has brought much needed developments between the two countries that had been at war for over two decades. The relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea is getting cosier, and we are loving it.

One of the major developments is the resumption of flights between Asmara and Addis Ababa. The Ethiopian Airlines in a press release stated the “the resumption of air links will play a critical role in boosting the overall political, economic, trade and people-to-people ties between the two sisterly countries.”

The release, signed by Aniley Eshetu the A/Manager Corporate Communications, Ethiopian Airlines reads “We at Ethiopian feel an immense honor and joy to resume scheduled flights to Asmara after 20 years, following the visit to Eritrea by H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. With the opening of a new chapter of peace and friendship between the two sisterly countries, we look forward to starting flights to Asmara with the B787, the most technologically advanced commercial aircraft, which gives customers unparalleled on-board comfort.”

Ethiopian Airlines plans on operating a multiple daily service with the view of starting cargo flights too. Ethiopian Airlines seeks to explore “the huge market potential” that exists between the two countries. Eritrea will join the 114 international destinations in 5 continents that Ethiopian Airlines flies to. The airlines is targeting the huge Eritrean Diaspora Community across the world which “will boost flow of investment, trade and tourism into Eritrea.”
