Government officials have confirmed that over 100 people were killed by gunmen in Kaduna state over the weekend. Police also ratified the incident but declined to give an official death toll. The area has seen many disputes over land, ethnicity and religion. Hundreds of people have died over the past year in disputes between the cattle-herding Muslim Fulani and settled Christian communities in the region.
“Fulani gunmen came across from neighbouring Plateau state and just opened fire on the villagers at around 11pm,” said Daniel Anyip, vice-chairperson of the Kaura local government authority. “We are still picking bodies out of the bush but so far there are more than 100 killed.” Source: Mail & Guardian
