Arts, Culture and Sport Wizkid and Ladysmith Black Mambazo nominated for Grammy Award

Talented Nigerian musician, Wizkid is in contention for a Grammy award for his role in U.S. rapper Drake’s 2016 album, Views, nominated for Best Album. Wizkid is the only Nigerian in contention for an award at the 59th Grammy’s. Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a celebrated South African band received a nomination (Best World Music Album) for their album Walking In The Footsteps Of Our Fathers, and South African born fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout is also up for an award. South Africa’s former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has been awarded this year’s Forbes Africa Person of the Year accolade for her unwavering fight against corruption and “quest to bring inconsistencies to the fore.” Madonsela is the sixth recipient of the prestigious accolade, which started in 2011. In the past, the award has been won by accomplished entrepreneurs, and this year marks the first time that the accolade has been won by an individual who is not a business person.

A seven year-old South African grade two learner, Michelle Nkamankeng has made history making it onto the global top 10 list of youngest writers. The budding writer is making waves with her first published book, which was recently launched entitled “Waiting for the Waves”. We applaud the budding writer for the remarkable achievement.
