Boko Haram first took over a military base in the town before mounting an assault over two weeks ago, which some describe as one of the deadliest attacks since the beginning of the insurgency.
The woman in the audio said to the BBC: “Presently, Boko Haram members of Baga origin have taken control of young women in Baga as the town is left in their hands. They rape and abuse our daughters. They destroy shops and burn down our houses. I saw all this when I was in Baga, they don’t allow the young women to move an inch from where they are.”
She added: “I spent one week at the palace of the traditional ruler and no school was open… they also took over the army hospital in Mile 4, the government general hospital and the missionary hospital. They carted away all the goods in the market and destroyed it.”
