Politics and Society Nigerian artists unite in condemning brutal xenophobic attacks in South Africa

Several Nigerian artists have come out strongly condemning the violent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The artists include Tiwa Savage who cancelled her impending show in South Africa, American-Nigerian rapper Jidenna, Burna Boy, Davido, and Teni who sent various messages in solidarity with victims of the xenophobic violence. A number of South African artists also added their voice to the outrage, posting heartfelt message against xenophobia.

Global fashion retail giant H&M has teamed up with South African designer Palesa Mokubung, unveiling its first-ever collaboration with an African label, Mantsho. Launched on August 15 online and in selected stores, including South Africa, the Mantsho collaboration features vibrant bold prints, creative cuts and confident styles.

A Kenyan MP was ejected from parliament after she brought, and tried to breastfeed her baby in the house. Zuleikha Hassan brought her five-month-old baby into parliament because of an emergency at home. Many African countries are still lagging behind in supporting breastfeeding in the workplace. Governments, and employers are obligated to provide an environment that empowers women to breastfeed their children.
